Walk of the Black Country with Promise Dreams

We did it – yesterday Sunday 19th June was an absolutely amazing day.  Beacon Radio organised a fantastic fundraising event for Promise Dreams (supported by Wolverhampton University and  3,500 lovely people pounded the pavements of Wolverhampton with a 10 mile walk from Himley Hall to Wolverhampton Racecourse.

The weather was really kind and in spite of a not too good forecast, the sun shone for us all and the outcome was phenomenal.

At the end of the day Beacon were calling £88,000 raised but the final amount was yet to come and this morning, the 20th June, Fresh made the announcement that the the total raised was……….

£103,000!

a lot of tears were shed at the Promise Dreams office this morning because we can only imagine just how many dreams are going to be delivered in the next few months to so many lovely kids.

It was so lovely listening to so many of you who took part, telling your stories on Beacon. Thank you – every one of you.

From Steve, Don, Beverley and myself – a heartfelt thank you.

To Beacon – hats off to you all for such a brilliant job. Your organisation was fab.

Beacon Walk of the Black Country for Promise Dreams

The Beacon Walk of the Black Country which was launched at our 10th Anniversary Dinner at Wolverhampton Racecourse has already received an amazing response and it would be great to see you there on Sunday 19th June.

Beacon presenters have teamed up with the University of Wolverhampton to urge people from across the region to don their walking shoes and walk 10 miles to help raise as much money as possible.

The Walk of the Black Country will start at Himley Hall, Dudley and finish at Wolverhampton Racecourse in Dunstall, Wolverhampton. The event is FREE to enter meaning all the sponsorship money will be going to Promise Dreams.

You can enter at beaconradio.co.uk and get all the information about the walk.

You know all about Promise Dreams but if you have a minute or two, please check out the video here to see why Steve, Don and I care so passionately about our charity.

Matt Ramsbottom the MD at Beacon adds – “we’re really excited about our Walk of the Black Country and hope that lots of people will join us on the day”

Bev Bird our Charity Manager at Promise Dreams said “we’re so pleased to be part of this event and although 10 miles is a challenge, it’s certainly achievable and I’m sure that the crew from Beacon will keep everyone going!”

The lovely Beverley Knight will be there and hopefully so too will Jacqui Graham and her family.

I know that Beacon is over the moon with the amount of people that have already registered and we are all so happy that so many of you have already agreed to be there. It should be a fab day so I am really looking forward to seeing you on the 19th.

If you want to support us but can’t physically make it on the day, I have put a Just Giving page in case anyone wants to commit to sponsoring.

Promise Dreams – 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner

Poppett and Trevor T's Gorgeous Show Girls

At the beginning of March, I was part of a truly wonderful evening to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Promise Dreams with an anniversary dinner that was second to none.

A fabulous night was had by all at Dunstall Racecourse on the 5th March 2011.  With the launch of our tenth year – the Promise Dreams Team and over 400 kind people joined together to have a superb evening to raise monies for Promise Dreams.

The evening got off to a thunderous start with Trevor T and his gorgeous show girls treating the room to a spectacular show including fire throwers and stilt walking and getting all the guests doing the conga around the tables  - and that was all before the starters were served!!

The evening festivities continued with a beautifully presented 4 course dinner and then onto the other festivities.

I was honoured to host the event along with Steve Bull and it was a delight to introduce Beverley Knight onto the stage.   She entertained the crowd with an acoustic set with songs from the past and present and it was lovely to have her stay for the whole evening with her lovely mum.  To have one soul diva was amazing but then 80’s legend, Jaki Graham took to the stage and rocked the crowd – many of the guests joined her on stage!

Jaki Graham and Family

A DVD showing all of our guests what the charity was about was delivered in total silence and I believe that bidding on the Auction items was  inspired by the footage shown because a quick-fire round of bidding ensued  raising a record breaking amount of money for the Charity – thank you so much everyone for your wonderful support

Dancing until 2am finished off what can only be described as a superbly successful evening – and one that we hope will set the tone for the fundraising from now forward….

with Steve and Beverley

Run for Dreams 2010

Our annual 5k ‘Run For Dreams’ took place in Wolverhampton’s West Park recently and for once it didn’t rain – well only a smidge before the start. Thanks so much if you came and joined in the fun and a big hug to Steve Bull and Don Goodman who, as ever, were wonderful co-hosts.
I’ll let you know how much was raised when the total is in. I was amazed I got round the course having eaten an 8 course Taster Menu at top chef Glyn Purnells’ restaurant in B-ham the night before; well I sort of rolled and stumbled. Big kiss to Beacon radio and all of our kind sponsors including Wolverhampton Audi and Esporta. From my point of view, a very big thanks to everyone that sent in donations by mail and of course via Just Giving.  I’ll keep you posted.

Keep September 19th Clear!!

Sunday 19th September is the date for the Run for Dreams this year.  We are looking at doing more in the West Park this year though with lots of things to entertain the youngsters too.

I know that we are hoping for a much bigger turn out this year and so I am hoping that many of you will sign up to join Steve Bull, Don Goodman and myself in this really important fundraising event for Promise Dreams.

Good news for those of you that like a bit of a lie in on a Sunday – we’re starting later in the morning………………..Please join us!

Err where did 2009 go?

I can’t believe that it’s already holiday time and another 12 months has slipped by. For me it has been a year of extremes; I have experienced great loss and also tremendous joy in the summer as I wed my feller, surrounded by my wonderful family. I now have a new dimension to my life which I am very grateful for.

In terms of work it has, as ever, been hectic. The Gadget Show continues to go from strength to strength and our first adventure with a live performance worked very well at the NEC in Birmingham back in April: in fact we will be extending the run next year to 4 days from April 8th – 11th, it’s a lot of fun. We have already filmed some of series 13 and it looks as though it will be a cracker, I also feel as though I am back to full strength and able to cope with more rugged challenges…look out boys! So far we have embarked upon a crazy desert challenge and directed pop videos, it all airs in February.

MotoGP was a full on calendar with Valentino reaping the rewards. I was thrilled that our BBC interview with him made world headlines (not the UK though with their apathy for bike sport!) He was very forthright about his views on team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, Yamaha and a future at Ducati. It sets a good stage for the 2010 battle. At this time I am uncertain of my position regarding coverage for next year, there is much to be discussed.

Biker Blast OffMy ipod application Biker Blastoff reached number 1, twice, in the itunes charts, so thank-you if you downloaded and tapped, rubbed and shook me to the top spot! It also passed 2 million downloads worldwide which is incredible and I would like to pass on my deepest thanks to Mediatonic, the game designers and the gang in the office who were all instrumental in its great success, cheers guys, who’d have thought it! Also it made my cat Gingi famous!

I continued with my writing; the MotoGP column in the Daily Telegraphs Motoring Section, the BBC Bike review magazine and also a guest spot in T3 Magazine, which I very much enjoyed doing. I met the gang at the T3 awards where I presented the Drop Dead Gadget Award to Apple for their MacBookPro, it was quite a night!

I will be enjoying a rest over the Christmas period and then in January I am off to South Africa for a 3 week honeymoon, can’t wait; I have been planning it for months!

Next year the website will change somewhat. It will still be a port of contact, there will still be photo’s but it’s going on a diet and will be streamlined somewhat! You can still follow me on twitter @suziperry and also I hope to create a blog, so all my info will remain current.

On the 4th December, I took part in a Panto at the Promise Dreams Dinner at Walsall Town Hall.  As always the charity was very well supported and everyone seemed to have a good time.  My fellow cast members included Steve Bull and Don Goodman, Jenny Jones and Jenny Wilkes from Radio WM and we were absolutely delighted to welcome the wonderful Jaki Graham who not only took part in the panto but performed 3 numbers for us including ‘Set me Free’  to a fantastic response from the audience.  She’s an amazing lady and I was so pleased to have had the opportunity to meet her.
